UN transport recommendations, Section 38.3, Rev. 5 Am. 2 - change of test T6 for round cells

In 2015, the second amendment of revision 5 of the UN recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods has come into effect. The original document is available at the UNECE and BAM websites.

Besides numerous changes in transport law and packaging regulations, there is also one new test requirement.

The border for the application of the impact test vs. crush test (test 6 section 38.3.4.6) for cylindrical single cells shifts from 20 mm diameter to 18 mm. This change only applies to the test of single cells, but also affects the testing and approval of batteries. Batteries tested according to edition 3, Am. 1 or more current of the UN recommendations may still be transported, but newly tested batteries must fully comply with Am. 2, Rev. 5.
