New test container for abuse tests on lithium-ion batteries
As part of a funded project we have developed a safety container for testing lithium-ion batteries in cooperation with the company Steinbeis, Chemnitz.
The container is a box-in-box construction. The inner chamber in which the test samples are placed has an outside thermal isolation. In case of intensive heat development during testing, e.g. by exploding batteries, the heat can be contained for a long time. The container is equipped with an exhaust air filtering system and can be tempered according to the test requirements.
We use the safety container for abuse tests on lithium-ion batteries, e.g. short circuit and overcharge tests. according to IEC 62133, edition 1 and 2 as well as according to the UN transport recommendations.
