Restriction of phthalate plasticisers in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE)
In the latest amendment to the RoHS directive ((EU) 2015/863) four phthalate plasticisers, used e.g. in cable insulations and handle soft covers, are added to the list of restricted substances of Annex II of the RoHS directive 2011/65/EC.
Substance | Maximum concentration values tolerated by weight in homogeneous materials |
---|---|
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) | 0,1 % |
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) | 0,1 % |
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) | 0,1 % |
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) | 0,1 % |
For the majority of EEE these provisions apply from 22 July 2019.
For medical devices and monitoring and control instruments, including industrial monitoring and control instruments, the transition period ends on 21 July 2021.
Cables or spare parts for the repair, the reuse, the updating of functionalities or upgrading of capacity of EEE placed on the market before the respective dates are exempt from this restriction.
Manufacturers and importers must ensure that their products meet the new requirements. Besides an effective supplier management chemical analyses in a competent laboratory is an appropiate measure for this purpose which we are happy to take care of. Click here to learn more about our services.
